BURTON MOOMAW is the head guide at Appalachian Mountain Guides, Inc. With over 18 years of climbing experience, he has climbed many free and aid routes in North Carolina and several "big walls" such as the Shield on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. Burton worked for three years as a climbing instructor at North Carolina Outward Bound and manufactured climbing equipment as a partner at Misty Mountain Threadworks, Inc.

BRYAN HASLAM Has been climbing for over ten years. His many rock, ice and mountaineering ascents throughout the U.S. and in Africa and South America attest to his well-rounded skills and experience. A deep-seated love of the Western North Carolina mountains led him to begin instructing and guiding in 1992. Bryan's intimate knowledge of climbing areas in Western North Carolina will be sure to enhance your day on the rocks.

Burton and Bryan are the first guides in the Southeast certified by the American Mountain Guides Association. Certification involves a long educational process. Many years of personal climbing experience and guiding form a guide's foundation. Guides' training courses emphasizing client care and technical guiding skills build their knowledge base. Finally, examination by other certified guides verifies a guide's high level of competence.  AMGA certification is the only "measuring stick" in the U.S. which reflects an individual guide's competence.
